On April 19, NATO will host important meetings of the North Atlantic Council and the NATO-Russia Council.  These meetings will be the opening rounds of U.S. discussions with Allies and Russia on how to harmonize the U.S. national missile defense system (including proposed sites in Poland and the Czech Republic) with NATO's plans for theatre missile defense.  NATO will also explore avenues for cooperation on missile defense with Russia.  Both of these meetings will be reinforced with national experts from Allied capitals on Missile defense systems.  We expect that the U.S. delegation will be led by Eric Edelman, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy; General Henry Obering, Director of the Missile Defense Agency; and Assistant Secretary of State John Rood.
